The Rib Mountain Ski Club is the original historic ski club in the Wausau, WI area. The club was founded in 1927. Our club is made up of singles and families from several communities that have come together as a club to promote skiing and snow boarding for families and people of all ages. We are funded by membership fees and our annual Swap Shop sale of new and used ski and snow boarding equipment and clothing. Our club subsidizes ski bus trips for members that have been a fantastic deal! We also have a number of social events. They differ from year to year and current events are listed on the calendar and the event info page. We hold an annual season kick off; the Spaghetti dinner and a season wrap up. This year we tried a new event for the season wrap up; Build a Burger! Everyone is kept informed by our website and by the Sitzmarker, our newsletter. The Rib Mountain Ski Club also supports ski related community events like the Badger State Games and Ski for Youth which has a rich history in the development of skiing in the Wausau area. There are also members of our club who are willing to help interested adults learn to ski. Please see the events page for more info.

About the Indianhead Ski Trip

We can say with absolute certainty that our first ski trip of the 2011-2012 season was a huge success. Everyone had a great time!!!! We had a total of 46 members on the trip…that’s the best turnout for the last couple of years. Word of the great value in joining and participating in Rib Mountain Ski Club’s ski and snowboarding events is spreading, thanks to our membership. Four families were added to our club roster. The weather was a bit chilly in the morning but after lunch the sun peeked out a bit, brightening both the beautiful landscape and our spirits. Conditions were prefect. You can definitely say that no one went home hungry. Rene’ provided subs for lunch that were “HUMUNGOUS”. As I write this, I’m finally enjoying the last of our left-over sandwiches. Special thanks to Therese Garvey for bringing her delicious dessert. Six racers soared down “Sundance” during the NASTAR event…no “gold” but everyone got a medal:

  • Ty Gerstenberger Participant 40:46
  • Silas Beranek Silver 32:45
  • Ben Robbins Silver 36.05
  • Katie Robbins Bronze 46:31
  • Greg Husband Silver 30:19
  • Sue Bolf Bronze 34:72
  • Mira Beranek Participant 53:10
  • Tiana Gerstenberger Silver 35:78

10 members paid for their trip using their ski swap certificates. It pays to help your club out in early November each year!!! The swap is our only fundraiser and is used to provide a very generous subsidy to the cost of these trips. As an example, the total cost of the Indianhead trip was $2,475.20. At $20/person, our income to offset this expense is a mere $920.00. Our hard work at the swap is paying off!!! We look forward to our next trip to Blackjack on Saturday, Jan. 28 and Whitecap on February 18. Guaranteed to be more fun than watching the Pack lose to the Giants!

Send in your registration to Rick Munz for arrival no later than 5 days before the Bus Trip. Remember, all boarding is at 5:45 AM at the Shopko Wausau parking lot.

  • Amy Christophersen - Treasurer
  • Rene’ Munz - Secretary
  • Sue Schmidt - Ski Swap Chair

  • Sue Mortensen - Membership Chair
  • Therese Garvey - Ski Swap assistant (new board member)
  • Dan Gacke - (new board member)

Last year we had some of the best trips. I loved the Powderhorn trip for my skiing form was great. I also loved the joint Porkies trip as so many people went and had fun in the winter even thought the snow conditions were rather poor. I actually skied across rocks! COOL! Sue took a handful of folks out onto Lake Superior onto a shoreline grounded ice flow.

Let’s have fun this winter. Need help being convinced - call me!
